Excursion "Monasteries of Moscow" - 3-d June 14-30
The excursion tells about the development of the orthodox Church in Moscow and the history of the most famous monasteries of the capital: the Novodevichy Convent and the Svyato Danilov Monastery.
The Novodevichy Convent was founded by the Grand prince Vasliy in memory of the return of  the town of Smolensk to the Russian State. The Nunnery founded in the Luzhniki tract got the name of Novodevichy as opposed to the Old Maiden´s (Starodevichy) Nunnery that had existed in the Kremlin from the end of the XIV-th century. In the 16th-17th centuries the Novodevichy Nunnery became the place where women from the tsar family took the veil.
A cemetery was made on the territory of the Novodevichy nunnery, here representatives of the church and secular nobility were buried. The Novodevichy Nunnery included by the UNESCO into the list of the world cultural heritage is considered to be one of the oldest and most beautiful monasteries in Russia.
The Svayato Danilov monastery is Moscow´s most ancient cloister. It was founded by the sacred honourable Prince Daniil Moskovsky, in 1282.
Over the period of its history the Svyato Danilov Monastery has repeatedly been the site of significant events in the life of our Motherland.
